Trevor & Jonathans Cruise & Trip to the Far East and Australia 2016

Day 60 - Friday July 8th 2016 - Kuala Lumpur Airport to Perth, Australia

day60

So we did sleep, just a little but we did sleep. Air Asia’s flat beds are actually pretty good. They are just like normal business class beds but the service isn’t. You get a free bottle of water and that’s about it, everything else you have to pre order and pay for but we were not complaining at all. Just being able to close our eyes for a short while was amazing, but the long days were not over yet.

When we had negotiated the flight change with Air Asia we really did not have a lot of choice so the flight’s we had to take were to be honest awful. So we had left Shanghai at just after six in the morning with no bed for the night after all those train journeys we really needed one.

It was now 11:20am in Kuala Lumpur and we were not due to take off for Perth until 12:05am tomorrow (just after midnight) getting into Perth at 05:35am.

So here we were, stuck at another airport for over twelve hours twiddling our thumbs after only a few hours’ sleep.

To be fare we did have two choices on arriving in Kuala Lumpur. We could have got completely out of the airport, travelled into the city and had a day there or we could as we did just hang around the airport. With us being so tired the thought of being in the city just felt like a stretch to far to be honest and I don’t think our bodies had the energy to make it happen.

Kuala Lumpur airport is huge and was under considerable redevelopment on our arrival so there actually was not a great deal to do. It took us about an hour to transfer to our ongoing international terminal, clear transit passport control and then find somewhere to sit. We paid to use the lounge services for part of the day, free drinks, free food once you had paid your admittance but to be honest it was the quiet of the place that had the most appeal. We sat in there for a good four or five hours, nodding off in between killing time on the internet and just sitting in silence, relieved that we had made it out of China and no matter how tired we felt at least we were on the move and finally making our way to Perth.

Being stuck in an airport really is no fun, there are only so many shops you can look around. We went to Starbucks, looked around every shop, ate, well we did everything you can do to try and beak the boredom and try and stay awake. It really was the longest day ever and not helped one bit by how exhausted we were.

Somehow we made it through, we were boarding our flight to Oz and soon it would all be over. The last three days had ben both stressful and exhausting and soul destroying but that was nearly all behind us now. One more plane journey would take us to the part of the trip that had no plan, no agenda, no reservations so we were in the dark to as to what we would do and when …..for now is was try for more sleep and hope that Joe would be at the airport waiting for us when we arrived in Perth in the meantime another Air Asia awaits us both.
