Day 1 - New Delhi, India
Day 1 - New Delhi, India
Well we have arrived at our hotel after a long journey from Gatwick to Delhi via Dubai. We were both puzzled why we had not thought of staying over a day or two in Dubai seeing as we were there anyway? Oh well!
Both flights were good, these were business class so nice big reclining seats and use of the emirates business class lounges in the airports!
Trevor managed a few hours sleep on the 7 hour flight to Dubai and a snooze on the second one, but Jonathan didn’t manage to sleep at all, so it’s now 5:30pm in Delhi and Jonathan is snoring away on his bed..yes we have separate beds as so not to upset the staff!
HIghlight of the day had to be the taxi journey from the airport to the hotel. The taxi can only be described as tuc tuc with 4 wheels and every time it went over a bump or pot hole in the road, Trevor got another dent in his skull from hitting his head on the roof of the taxi! Now Indian driving is something to be seen to be believed..there is no lane control whatsoever, it’s just squeeze your way in and sound your horn and hope for the best! Bargain taxi, 262 Rupees for about a 40 minute transfer (£3.85)
Decided to be adventurous and go for an Indian meal in an Indian restaurant. Once we had sorted out the menu, ended up with currys and rice not too dissimilar from home. One thing we did discover is that when they built the roads (see above) they neglected pavements, so you have to walk in the road alongside all the cars and tuc tucs.
No photos taken today except one outside the restaurant!
