Trevor & Jonathans Cruise & Trip to the Far East and Australia 2016

Day 36 - Tuesday June 14th 2016 - Ovation of the Seas - Cruising

So with no reason to get up as we were not allowed off the boat we had a lazy morning. The clocks had gone back an hour at midnight so it wasn’t that bad, we were up just before 09:00. Trev can’t even have a cup of coffee bless him so it was coffee for one. Trev ordered his breakfast from room service (more banana on toast) whilst I nipped out to deck four for a Starbucks and a breakfast bran muffin.

The doctor rang Trev to see how things were going and it was not good news. As things stand at the moment Trev is still on cabin lock down until 22:00 now. He is in no pain, no fever, no sickness but in the cabin

we must remain.

As we were docked the boat was pretty empty, the port we had docked at is actually not in Ho Chi Minh itself, it’s a huge cargo/industrial port but outside of the port gates there appears to be absolutely nothing (at least as far as the eye can see).

Jonathan went for a quick walk up on deck to see all around us and apart from a few warehouses and new car stock car park there was nothing. It’s really humid here and it did rain very very slightly whilst up on deck for a few seconds (such is the level of humidity).

So what did we do? Well we played cards out on the balcony, watched TV (a documentary on the building of the ship) and waited and waited and waited.

I gave in to Trevor’s demands for food at lunch time, the thing is he is meant to be following a special diet whilst he is holed up of dry toast and boiled eggs, stuff like that but what he really wanted was a roast beef roll with horseradish mustard. Figuring that this would be kill or cure of I went to fetch it from café 270. He also enjoyed a sugar free cookie that he was not allowed on the diet but the good news was that it seemed to have no effect on him or his stomach, thank goodness.

So the afternoon and evening disappeared (painfully) under a mixture of watching TV, watching our iPads, playing scrabble, well just about anything that we could find to do to amuse ourselves. As the clock turned round it was getting harder and harder and to be honest this cabin confinement had really taken the wind out of our sails and there were times we just wanted to go home……positive attitude needed!

Eventually after what seemed like an age the hour finally came 22:00! The doctor rang, we gave the update and that was that, we were FREE and what a good feeling that was, just to be able to go outside and see life. (OK I was allowed to go out of the cabin but other than running errands for us both I stayed with Trev so he did not face this isolation on his own).

We walked around, taking in the life of the boat again, it’s hard to judge how busy it is but the bars all seem very empty, the Chinese on board don’t seem to be drinking and the bars on the whole only seem to be frequented by the Europeans that are on board.

Eventually we settled down in our old home The Schooner Bar for a drink with Raul playing the ivories (no sigh of Laurence on-board this time yet?). One drink down and it was down to Vintages. It was a little strange being there without Michael and Martin (if your reading this, we missed you both) but that was us. We certainly did not want to push it on our first night out of jail and to be honest because we had done absolutely nothing we were actually quite tired.

We went off to bed, Trev didn’t break his old routine, he still sopped at the Robot Bar (Bionic Bar) for a nightcap (triple brandy) and off to bed we went.

Let’s just hope that the morning brings continued health for Trev and we can start trying to write more interesting blogs again. Thanks for sticking with us over the last 36 hours, it’s been as boring for us as it was for you.
